As has become traditional in recent years, Comberton players outnumbered those from any other club in the Cambs End of Season tournament at Cambridge Squash Club, and they had great success in almost every event they entered!
Tom Blair produced the most remarkable performance, managing – at the age of fourteen – to win the
Under 17s on Saturday and then the
Under 19s on Sunday. The losing finalist in the
U17s was
Chris Shaw, who put up a great fight, and the two losing semi-finalists were also Comberton players:
Tom Symmons and
Sam Bradshaw. Sam went on to beat
Jeremy Harris in the
U15 final (where the other two semi-finalists,
Will Collett and
Laurence Temple, were again from Comberton), and
Jamie Sandford lost a hard-fought battle in the
U13 final.
Will Collett fought back from 2-0 down to take the
U17 plate final 3-2.
Many other Comberton players were knocked out by their clubmates, so there’s plenty of opportunity for revenge in the Club’s own junior tournaments which are now underway!
One aim for the coming year should be to increase Comberton’s representation in the Girls’ events (where
Beth Collett was our lone competitor) and in the Under 11s, where we had no players, but we hope for some to come through from the Club’s thriving mini-squash sessions in the future.
