Our
4th Team turned in a great performance in their second round fixture on
29 January to win the
Cambs Junior League Division IV trophy at their first attempt. Going into the fixture we had a
four point lead over our closest rivals,
Hunts County, and an exciting afternoon’s squash saw
Comberton doing just enough to maintain that lead.
Against the third team in the division,
Abbotsley, we did not field all our strongest players, and our less experienced second and third strings,
Eddie Lane and
Josie Allen, found it tough going, though they both accumulated a respectable points tally.
Matt Peer at 1 wore down his opponent after a tight first game to give us three valuable points. The overall points went
9-3 in Abbotsley’s favour.
We had more success against
Hunts County.
Casey Miller, like
Josie and
Eddie making her debut for the club, fought well in her
3rd string match, eventually losing a close contest 1-3.
Matt Peer’s good form continued as he beat
Hunts County’s no. 2 by
three games to nil, and
Harry Harland-Mears completed a very good team performance with an emphatic win over nationally-ranked
Darcie Mounter. This gave us a
10-3 win overall, and with Hunts County beating Abbotsley
10-4 it meant that all three teams had scored a total of
13 points!
So
Comberton 4 finish the season with
31 points,
Hunts County 3 with
27 and
Abbotsley 3 with
19. We look forward to seeing our
Under-11 squad at the Junior League
End of Season Tournament in March, where the
divisional winners’ trophies will be presented. Well done all you Under-11s – a tremendous start to your county squash careers!
