One of our favourite challenges for our advanced junior squash players is a
Triples tournament.
This only works if we can organize them as
three equal teams. Then each set of three players play a
triples game.
This is a very difficult and challenging competition where each player has a chance to win points playing against a
team of the other two players. Of course it is usually one on the
backhand and one on the
forehand. The fun part is making the player in the middle run all over the court in
very long rallies. This is excellent training routine because it forces the player
in the middle to move up to the T every shot.
We play it PAR and let them keep their score in points won as a single. If they are able to beat the team to 11 points then they also get a
bonus which is their advantage in points over the team.
So if I lose 5 11 then I only get 5 points. But if I win 11 5 then I get my 11 points plus the difference 11-5 =6 as bonus points - totalling 17 all together. At 10 all we play tie break - so extra points are also available there but the bonus is limited to 2.
Here is how it played on this
Saturday 21st November.
Team A;
Team B;
Team C;
Chris 13*; Tom 5; Jack 13*;
Olly 13; Guy 2; Jonny 14*;
Jo 5; Peter 9; Will H. 18*;
Will T. 6; Sam Pr. 10; Charlie 7;
Totals: 37; 26; 52!
with bonus points added where the
stars are!
Well done to: Jack, Jonny, Will H., and Charlie, the
winning team. Olly got extra points from a tie-break without winning any actual bonus!
