Comberton's best ever County haul!
It was the best ever year for Comberton Juniors at the Cambridgeshire County Closed Tournaments this weekend (27th & 28th September) at Hemmingford Grey Pavilion Squash Club.
We had a new County champion in the boys U-13 age group where Jeremy Harris convincingly added the squash trophy to his recent county tennis win (Ed: Tennis? what's that? Dr Squash: Well it's sort of a summer version of squash played in the sunshine and also wimbledon).
Jeremy's brother Angus Harris played well in the mixed U-11 age group and was defeated by Nadine El Rafee - who was an eventual finalist.
Will Harris was knocked out of the U-15 boys competition by fellow Comberton player Tom Blair. Tom himself was a finallist in the U-15 boys - a runner up to Tom Symmons who successfully defended his title having also won the U-17 boys plate competition the previous day. The runner-up in that hard fought final was Chris Shaw who also trains with us at Comberton.
In the older boys age group Euan Macnamee played exceptionally well in the boys U-19 plate competition after winning a very creditable 10 points against Sammy Chambers (Crown Lodge) who went on to easily win his title for another year. Euan went through to the plate final after a excellent performance against Toby Reeve (St Ivo). This hard game slowed him a little and in the final he came runner-up to a fresher Steven Mason (St Ivo).
The boys U-15 plate final like the main event was an all-Comberton event with Jack Murphy narrowly beating training partner Will Collett.
Finally Robert Dadds, who plays for the Comberton Mens' 1st team, narrowly lost out to his training partner Dan McGinn in a tremendous U-17 boys final - after a gruelling five games it came down to three crucial points between them. With Dan looking just a fraction sharper to finish the match.
Well done all our winners and also well-played our other juniors who were not in the finals - in many cases knocked out by fellow Comberton players! Will Thorne, Ollie Thorne, Alex Gooding, Sam Bradshaw, Sam Bithell, Johnny Brown, Nick Hipwell, Ellis Maloney, and Guy Weatherhead.
