Saturday Junior Coaching 29th September

This Saturday (29th September) we will be having only two sessions. The first session is from 9.00 to 10.30 for beginners and the second is from 10.30 to 12.00 for more advanced players.

This weekend the Cambridge County Closed is running at Hemmingford Grey squash courts. So most of our advanced players are competing there. So there will be no advanced squad training. Comberton has the greatest number of entries of all squash clubs in the county - we wish all our players good luck. If you can come along to give support that would be great and you will see some excellent squash.

Remember that eye-protection should be worn for all junior sessions.

9.00 - 10.30 session. Steve Swanton and Tim Harland-Mears.
10.30 - 12.00 session. Andy Thorne.

Demigods Handicap Tournament

Here are the results from our friendly and fun handicap tournament that ended the Demi-gods training day on Sunday 15th September.
This was single games point-a-rally scoring to 7 points. If the score reached 6 all then it was tie-break situation and one player had to win by two clear points.
If a player won then they stayed on and faced a new opponent BUT this next game started with a one point lead for the new player. If the original player won that one too then they faced another new opponent but now this new player got a two point lead to start with.... and so on... we weren't quite sure what would happen if they got as far as beating a six point lead opponent.... but fortunately that never happened on Sunday!

The final ranking was based on total number of games won and was:

Peter 10 games
Will H. 8 games
Rafie = Will C. 5 games
Alan 4 games
Tom B. = Marcus 3 games
Jeremy 2 games
Jack 1.5 games
Charlie = Will T. 1 game

Everyone was playing very competitively despite it being at the end of a long day on the court for them all.

Saturday Junior Coaching 22nd September

This Saturday (22nd September) we will be having three sessions. The first session is from 9.00 to 10.30 for beginners; the second is from 10.30 to 12.00 for more advanced; and then 12.00 to 2.30 will be squad training for the School team combined with other advanced juniors. If you were at the Demigod training last Sunday then this is the session that you should be coming to.

This week we will be concentrating on fitness at the advanced session.

Remember that eye-protection should be worn for all junior sessions.

9.00 - 10.30 session. Steve Swanton and Tim Harland-Mears.
10.30 - 12.00 session. Mike Macnamee and Andy Thorne.
12.00 - 2.30 pm session. Martyn Symmons and Mike Macnamee.

Demi-Gods moving on up

Last Sunday we had a special training day for our younger juniors. We started with some coaching on swing shape and targets. During lunch we looked at some videos of professional players in action and Jonathon Power training routines. After lunch we had another go at the popular King-of-the-court challenge with all three courts in action and promotion or demotion on the line for each group. We then looked at the drop and the volley as attacking shots. And finished off with a special tournament where the winner from quickfire games stayed on but with an increasing handicap. The overall winner of this was Peter. Well done to him and to all the players.

Demigods (and goddesses) special day of training

Following on from our highly successful day of training for our advanced juniors we will be having a similar day for other juniors on Sunday 16th September. This will start at 10.00 and end at 16.00 and include fitness routines and special squad training from the maestro Andy D'Alessandro. Cost will be a fiver which includes a snack lunch.
If you would like to attend then talk to one of the coaches or contact Mike or Martyn directly (phone 01954 718860 or 01223 873048).

Gods kickstart the new season.

On 2nd September our advanced juniors had a special day of coaching and fitness training to get them into gear for the new season. A fun time was had by all and over lunch we made some plans for a training schedule over the next few months. Everyone looked very sharp and eager to get back into their squash. In just a short time we will be having the Cambridge and Area closed junior tournaments and every one looks likely to do very well. We were especially pleased at the interest from players from other clubs who really added to the day. Excellent squad coaching was provided by the maestro Andy D'Alessandro.
