Comberton II move into pole position
A home fixture in Cambs Junior League Division II on January 8 began with Comberton level pegging with Ramsey at the top of the division, so we needed a good performance to take the lead.
We had an unchanged squad, except that Henry Prime had swapped places with Mark Dancy in the order, so it was Nick White once again at #1, with Henry at 2 and Mark at 3. Our opening match was against Ramsey, and both Mark and Henry outplayed their opponents with 3-0 wins. Nick’s energy levels were suffering from an excess of squash played the day before, and he was unable to rise to the challenge set by Chris Rej, but Comberton ended up with a significant 9-3 points win overall.
In our second match, against Hunts County, Mark and Henry repeated their performance against Ramsey, both our players winning without dropping a game. Nick then found himself embroiled in a very long battle against Natalie Caulkett, and he eventually staggered over the winning line 12-10 in the fifth game! This gave us a 12-2 victory over Hunts County, and leaves us with a nine-point lead over Ramsey going into the final fixture, which is scheduled for February 26 at Ramsey.
