CVC off to a flyer in the National Schools Squash Championships
Comberton’s first opponents in the Boys Under-15 event of this season’s championships were Bishops Stortford Grammar School. The match was played at Comberton, and we were fielding a pretty strong line-up, weakened only by the withdrawal through illness of our no. 4 string, Henry Prime.
Comberton got off to a good start with an impressive 3-0 win for our no. 5, Matt Haynes, who looked well in control throughout his match. Sam Hicks, promoted to no. 4 through Henry’s withdrawal, was a bit below par but hung in well to grind out a 3-1 victory. By this stage we just needed a win from Charlie McRobie to guarantee overall victory, and Charlie duly obliged 3-0. Todd Roberts at no. 2 produced a very skilful display to wrap up another 3-0 win, and our top string, Laurence Temple, proved far too strong for the Bishops Stortford no. 1, winning 3-0 to produce a convincing 5-0 overall victory.
Thanks to all the team who tackled their task so well, and to our two reserves who played friendlies against Bishops Stortford: Josh Morrow and Owen Mellors-Bourne.
