Special training days kickstart the new season
Comberton juniors kickstarted the new squash season with two days of intensive training and coaching this week in sessions codenamed 'GnG' for 'Gods and Godlets'.
These sessions were inspired by our previous 'Gods of Squash' summer camps for the best players in the club. Tuesday was two mini-training sessions for our new crop of 'Gods' with an elite 15 player squad drawn from our juniors put through intensive work on tactics with level four professional coach Chris Vine. Chris, who is also director of the North Essex Squash Academy, has coached from club level through to players on the international Professional Tour. He has also trained many of our Club Coaches - most recently Ollie Thorne.
Check out the following posting to see a summary of Chris's discussions with our juniors. His most important point was how important it was to evaluate each game you play and think about exploiting your strengths and minimizing your weaknesses through the season.
On Wednesday it was the turn of our younger players - the Godlets - 18 of whom had squad training with Martyn and Mike - two of our club level two coaches (does 2 times level two equal a level four?) . The focus for these sessions was on technical details of movement on court, grip on the racquet, and target selection. All of which mean help you keep your opponent working harder than you for the whole match.
Well done to all who attended these session.
