Comberton third team win their county league!

After yesterday’s final fixture in this season’s Division 3 of the Tucker Gardner County Junior Leagues Comberton have clinched the title!

It’s been a tremendous performance this season from our team of players, all of whom are new to the County Junior Leagues. The trophy will be presented at the End of Season League Tournament in April.

Yesterday we began our home fixture against Melbourn, with Tim Lloyd-Kinnings at #3, making his debut for the team, up against the powerful serving of Faith Mutti. Tim played well to take the first game, but was gradually overwhelmed by Faith’s serves and eventually lost 3-1. Alban Fernandez lost a tight opening game 10-9, but then grew in focus and confidence to run out a 3-1 winner. Sam Bradshaw at #1 wasn’t greatly troubled by his opponent and a 3-0 victory gave us an overall win against Melbourn.

Our other opponents, St Ivo, arrived with only two players, so Alex Gooding got a walkover at #3! Alban had his second close match of the afternoon, and though he fought back from 2-0 down to take the third game he ended up losing 3-1. Sam once again secured the overall win with an even more comprehensive victory than in his first match!
