Comberton First team battling hard in Premier League

The Comberton First Team played Hunts Leisure at the St Ivo Outdoor Centre Courts on Sunday 20th January. At third position Tom Symmons was stepping up for his first outing in the Premier League. Fresh from his England Squash Academy Training the previous day, he was clearly well in control against Alex Green despite the older boy's greater reach and power. Tom won it easily 3:0. The boot was on the other foot for Euan Macnamee in number one position. He was facing Robert Dadds who had also benefited from the Academy Coaching. Euan put up a brave fight in the first game and won several rallies with his trademark deadly kill shots. But Rob's speed and fitness allowed him to dominate the T and take the match easily 3:0.

Meanwhile Matt Cole and Sean Gant looked like having a rerun of their marathon 5 game match when they met before Christmas at Comberton. But it was not to be - Sean was able to take the sting out of Matt's pacey game and Matt's fitness started to look very questionable after a series of very long rallies. Matt pushed it to 9:9 in the fourth game with Sean two games to one up. Game ball for Matt alternated with match ball for Sean for several nail-biting rallies. But finally Matt made one tired error too many and lost the game and the match.

So Comberton lost the fixture overall. But we saw excellent competitive squash from all three of our players.
