Comberton out in strength at the Junior County Closed

As usual, there was a very good turnout from our club at the Cambs Junior County Closed (held at Hunts County Squash Club on 24 and 25 September) – especially in the Boys Under 17 event, where the ten competitors included nine from Comberton!

The outstanding achievement of the tournament was Tom Blair’s double victory, winning the U17 title on Saturday and the U19 title on Sunday. He beat Jeremy Harris in the U17 final and Chris Shaw in the U19 final, both in straight games. Joe Weavers reached the U17 semi-final, while Will and Jeremy Harris made the semi-finals in the U19s. Josh Harland-Mears won the U17 Plate, beating Dan Ellwood in the final. Laurence Temple lost a very close U15 final, while Matt Haynes reeled off three successive wins to take the U15 Plate. Matthew Peer put up a determined fight against the top seed in the U11 final, eventually going down 3-1. Although our sole female representative in the tournament, Selina Leung, didn’t carry off any trophies, she distinguished herself by beating a former county champion 3-0 in her opening game before going out to the no. 1 seed.

All in all, a very satisfying two days for Comberton!
