National Schools Squash Tournament: another good year for CVC

Comberton’s Boys’ Under-15 School Squash Team finally saw this year's campaign come to an end in March in an away fixture against Heathside Independent School. The match was played in the prestigious surroundings of the St George’s Hill Tennis and Squash Club in Surrey, and our opponents turned out to be coached by one of Britain’s top squash coaches, Danny Lee, whose son Joe is an international squash player.

Although it was always going to be an uphill battle against Heathside’s array of nationally-ranked juniors CVC were far from disgraced, with our lead string Jeremy Harris scoring well in his match and our number 5 string, Charlie McRobie, producing a great performance to claim our only win of the day.

Our 4-1 defeat left us just short of the quarter-finals, but for the team to reach the last sixteen in England following three earlier victories was yet another sign of the quality of young players coming through the Comberton system.

Congratulations on a great season to all the team: Jeremy Harris, Alex Gooding, Laurence Temple, Todd Roberts and Charlie McRobie, plus reserves Matthew Haynes and Finn Savage.
