Comberton teams Junior League Round-up
The latest two fixtures featuring Comberton were both home matches – Division 2 on January 9th and Division 1 on January 30th.
Our Third Team, playing in Division 2, was led by Angus Harris, who found himself involved in two close matches. He took the first game against Tom Rogers of Cambridge SC, but was unable to keep up the pace against his older opponent and went down 3-1. An even closer contest followed against Hunts County, where the match see-sawed throughout five gripping games, with Angus eventually losing by the narrowest of margins: 12-10 in the fifth. Josh Morrow at #2 found the going tough against both his older and more experienced opponents, though he gained steadily in confidence against his Hunts County rival, getting closer in every game. Owen Mellors-Bourne produced a good performance against his Cambridge opponent, the match producing a memorable second game which tested Owen’s resilience – a test which he passed to win the game 19-17 and then went on to seal a 3-0 win. Unfortunately Hunts County could not field a third player.
Overall results: Comberton lost 9-4 against Cambridge and 9-5 against Hunts County.
Comberton’s Second Team played in Division 1 and enjoyed plenty of success. Todd Roberts at #1 played superbly, producing an accurate and intelligent performance to beat an older and taller opponent from Fenland 3-1 and following up with a 3-0 win over his opposite number from Ramsey Abbey. Matt Haynes struggled with the fire-power of his Fenland opponent, but recovered well to win an epic 3-2 battle against Ramsey, which ended in a 12-10 victory in the fifth game. Finn Savage was able to coast home against two relatively weak opponents, wrapping up 3-0 wins in both his matches.
Overall results: Comberton beat Fenland 9-4 and Ramsey Abbey 12-2.
