Comberton First Team's results in Junior League
Comberton First Team played their second (and last) fixture in the Premier Division at Hunts County on Sunday 13 February. As in the pre-Christmas fixture, Cambridge Squash Club failed to field a team, so we were left to battle it out against the host club once again!
The closest match of the three featured the number threes: Charlie McRobie, hastily promoted to the no. 3 position following Alex Gooding’s injury sustained in a football match hours earlier, faced nationally-ranked Tayla Mounter. It was a great contest, but after taking the first two games Charlie was eventually eased out in the next three very tight games. Will Thorne had an almost equally close match, even though it was three nil! There was little to choose between Will and Callum Valler, but Callum came out on top in each game, the match climaxing with a 15-13 defeat for Will in the third. Laurence Temple produced a fine display against another nationally-ranked opponent, Gregory Goodwin, and did very well to take the first game, but Greg’s consistency eventually wore him down, and he lost 3-1 despite taking the fourth game to 12-10. All three of our players had acquitted themselves well regardless of the eventual outcome.
Score:
Hunts County, 12 points,
Comberton, 3 points.
We played a number of friendlies afterwards, in which all three of our team players, plus reserve Finn Savage, gained useful match experience.
