Another step closer to the league title for the fourth team....
Comberton’s Junior Fourth team edged closer to the Cambs Junior League Division 3 title in a home fixture disrupted by the non-appearance of some of the other teams. In fact Comberton gained from this in terms of points, as the two teams we were due to play both had difficulty finding players.
We had a 12-0 walkover against Fenland, who could only produce two lads to play ladder challenge matches, while our other opponents, Cambridge, had two of their three players drop out at the last minute. Charlie McRobie, our no. 1, comfortably disposed of their one surviving player, which meant that we also won 12-0 against Cambridge!
We took the opportunity to play quite a few ladder challenge matches for the Junior County ladder, and were very successful in this. Charlie narrowly lost an enthralling battle against Scott Drewery of Crown Lodge, while our no. 2, Ed Tucker, and no. 3 Owen Mellors-Bourne, outplayed everyone they came up against in displays of impressive skill and consistency which give still further encouragement to the prospect of junior success for Comberton (both Club and College) in the next couple of years.
With one fixture left in this division we are firmly in pole position to gain the trophy (to be presented at the County End of Season Tournament), so we’ll be hoping for an equally good performance in our matches on March 21.
