Chris Vine's Winning Wisdom for Comberton Juniors - Part One.
Here is a summary of the important training points from this Tuesday morning GnG session at Comberton.
1. Serve variation - make sure that you have a different serve or two that you have practised and can produce when you face someone who is too comfortable with your standard serve.
2. Think about the range of straight front court shots that you have: varying pace, and height.
3. Learn to use accurate volleying as a pressure or momentum creating tactic.
4. Find a way to keep your mental control so that you don't lose focus or momentum in diffult or distracting conditions.
5. Aim for a two floor-board width from the wall target - and get ready to exploit the weak return this will be likely to get from your opponent.
6. Put aside some time for solo practice to develop your skills and develop new shots.
7. Remember the value of evaluation. Write down key points from every match to see your strengths and to focus on any weak areas to work on with you coach and in solo practice.
