Another good day for Comberton Third Team

On Sunday 23 November our Junior Third Team travelled to St Ivo for their second fixture of the season. We had two of the three players who’d played in the first fixture, with Jack Murphy coming in at #2 and Alex Gooding dropping down to #3.

Against Hunts County Alex found Tayla Mounter a tough opponent in the first game, and had to call upon his reserves of determination to win it 12-10. After that he took control of the match well, and ended up a comfortable 3-0 winner. Jack too stayed well on top of Nathan Roitman throughout, while Sam Bradshaw played exceptionally well to overcome Greg Goodwin in a match of high-quality rallies – two more 3-0 wins for Comberton!

With a 12-0 points win over our first opponents we then faced a much older Crown Lodge First Team. Alex seemed overwhelmed by Adam Rawlings for the first two and a half games before suddenly discovering a succession of powerful and accurate serves to take the third game and very nearly the fourth as well, in the end going down 3-1. Jack found himself up against a player of similar style in Matthew Allison – both players were very fast around the court, and all the games were close, but Matthew prevailed 3-1 eventually. Sam was on spectacular form all afternoon, and defeated the talented Jasmine Luckett 3-0, partly by simply refusing to give up on any rally. Overall we lost to Crown by 9 points to 5, but the Comberton players had given impressive performances throughout.
