Comberton Boys Well Placed in Area Academy Tourney

Comberton juniors performed well in the England Squash East Area Academy Tournament last weekend at the Ipswich Sports Club. All three Harris brothers (Angus, Jeremy, and Will) were playing and Will Harris did particularly well to win through his preliminary round to end up 15th overall in the Under-15 competition. Will Collett also won through a preliminary U-15 round and ended up 13th in the same competition. Tom Blair was unlucky enough to face a particularly good opponent in his preliminary round U-15 match but after losing that he went on to storm to the top of the playoffs for those knocked out in the preliminary round - putting him 16th overall just below Will Harris. Tom Symmons as county champion did not to have to qualify in the U-15 and then had a convincing victory in his first round match. He fought well in his next two matches and took a game off both opponents (Harry Faulkner, Herts and Marcus Baird, Suffolk) with some excellent rallies. This left him in 7th place overall at the end of the tournament.

This is the first year for a new Area set-up which brings Essex and Herts into the Academy region. This means an influx of some excellent new players and much harder matches for our juniors. It was good to see them still fighting well even if it'll be much more difficult for them to qualify for Academy places.
