Agricole Cup Under-19 mixed age doubles results.

The Agricole Cup is a new fun Club Tournament played between teams of mixed ages - one Comberton junior and one Comberton senior player. On Sunday 17th March we played the under-19 age competition - obviously it is only the junior that the age limit applies to! We had several father:son partnerships and also other senior players bravely stepped forward when some fathers were not available. Unfortunately we had no mother:son or father:daughter or mother:daughter teams but we hope to have some of these in the forthcoming under-16 age competition.

The Agricole Cup is kindly sponsored by Jeremy Cole's company Agricole Ltd.

Well done to all the teams that turned out at the Club on Sunday and played a really competitive and good spirited competition. It was a learning experience for everyone - the games were intensive and demanding - often played at a blistering pace but alway highly entertaining for the spectators. Everyone's focus and energy held up amazingly through the whole day.

Rallies were played with incredible skill and quick reactions and most importantly safely. Lets were numerous but everyone accepted this with good grace. Mainly since it was obvious that there were actually very few winning shot openings so a let was usually the fairest outcome. Also because it was obvious how hard everyone was working keep things going as smoothly as possible.

We played a round robin of best of three games, PAR scoring to 15. The final order was:

1st. Nils Downes and Colin Walker;
2nd. Ben and Neil Stuchbury;
3rd. Euan and Mike Macnamee;
4th. Rory and Martyn Symmons;
5th. Matt Cole and Steve Swanton.

Congratulations to our winners - an excellent combination of two very cool-headed and fit players - and special thanks to Colin for stepping in when Nils's father David was not able to play on this Sunday (although he had a chance to try out the partnership during last weeks practice).

Although ending up with the wooden spoon, Matt and Steve put up an excellent fight - there was only 2 points in it between them and Rory and Martyn - and one of these was decided on a tie-break in the third game between them!
