Brian Fielding Memorial Handicap Tournament
This Tournament is an annual timed handicap event commemorating the county coach Brian Fielding who helped develop squash in Cambridgeshire.
Comberton were probably the best-represented club at the tournament this year, held at the St Ivo Club on Sunday 10 December, with 7 players in Group A (Under 15s) and one in Group B out of a total of 30 competitors in all.
Our Group A players – scattered through four round robin-boxes – were Sam Bithell, David Cadwalladr, Anna Carter, Will Collett, Marcus Connolly, Liam Faruq, and Andrew Healey. Rafie Faruq carried the lone Comberton flag in Group B!
Everyone seemed to manage at least one competitive match, though David was hampered by a shoulder injury, and Anna and Rafie were only narrowly pipped at the post for qualification for the semi-finals as box winners. In the end our one semi-finalist was Will, who performed very well to win his box (and a £10 gift token!). Will went out in his semi-final to the eventual Group A champion, Jack Wright from Peterborough.
